Ibadah shalat tarawih merupakan salah satu ibadah sunnah yang sangat bergengsi yang dilaksanakan oleh ummat Islam pada bulan ramadhan. Ibadah ini hanya ditemukan pada bulan ramadhan saja. Tarawih bermakna ‘istirahat’, oleh sebab itu dalam ibadah shalat tarawih diselingi ‘istirahat’ dengan disunnah-kan duduk sejenak selepas salam lalu memperbanyak zikir kepada Allah dan shalawat kepada Rasulullah, baik pada setiap rakaat kedua maupun rakaat ke empat dan dikerjaakan dalam keadaan tenang, khusyuk dan tidak tergesa-gesa, dilakukan dengan benar, tidak terlalu cepat, sehingga sesuai kepada tajwid atau tatacara bacaan yang benar. Jika dilihat secara historis, shalat tarawih ini dikerjakan oleh Nabi pertama pada tanggal 23 Ramadhan tahun kedua Hijriyyah, namun pada masa itu beliau mengerjakannya tidak semata hanya di masjid terus menerus, kadang di masjid, kadang mengerjakannya di rumah. Hal ini beliau lakukan karena khawatir kalau shalat tarawih diwajibkan oleh Allah SWT untuk ummat Islam. Meskipun shalat tarawih merupakan perkara sunnah, akan tetapi ia merupakan sunnah muakkadah yaitu yang sangat dianjur-kan bagi ummat Islam, boleh dilaksanakan sendiri akan tetapi dianjurkan berjamaah. Buku ini dibuat sebagai sarana belajar kembali bagi penyusun sendiri, akan tetapi penyusun juga berharap dapat bermanfaat bagi pembaca semua. Amin ya Rabbal ‘aalamiin.
