Islam and Local Wisdom: Religious Expression in Southeast Asia: Islam dan Kearifan Lokal: Ekpresi Keberagamaan di Asia Tenggara

Beati Tradisi Gorontalo

Engineering Research Methodology

A Practical Insight for Researchers

The book covers all the important aspects of research methodology, and addresses the specific requirements of engineering students, such as methods and tools, in detail. It also discusses effective research in engineering today, which requires the ability to undertake literature reviews utilizing different online databases, to attribute credit for any prior work mentioned, to respect intellectual property rights while simultaneously maintaining ethics in research, and much more. Further, the book also considers soft skills like research management and planning, dealing with criticism in research and presentation skills, which are all equally important and need to include in research methodology education. Lastly, it provides the technical knowhow needed to file patents in academia, an important area that is often ignored in research methodology books. The book is a particularly valuable resource for PhD students in India and South East Asia, as research methodology is a part of their coursework.

Computer Supported Qualitative Research

New Trends on Qualitative Research

This book includes a selection of papers presented at the Third World Conference on Qualitative Research (WCQR2018), held in Lisbon, Portugal on October 17–19, 2018. The WCQR2018 focused on four main fields of application (Education, Health, Social Sciences, and Engineering and Technology) and seven main subjects: Rationale and Paradigms of Qualitative Research; Systematization of Approaches with Qualitative Studies; Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research; Data Analysis Types; Innovative Processes of Qualitative Data Analysis; Qualitative Research in Web Contexts; and Qualitative Analysis with the Support of Specific Software. Given its breadth of coverage, the book offers a valuable resource for academics, researchers, teachers and students seeking information on the above topics, and on the use of Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis (CAQDAS).

Using R for Data Analysis in Social Sciences

A Research Project-Oriented Approach

Statistical analysis is common in the social sciences, and among the more popular programs is R. This book provides a foundation for undergraduate and graduate students in the social sciences on how to use R to manage, visualize, and analyze data. The focus is on how to address substantive questions with data analysis and replicate published findings. Using R for Data Analysis in Social Sciences adopts a minimalist approach and covers only the most important functions and skills in R to conduct reproducible research. It emphasizes the practical needs of students using R by showing how to import, inspect, and manage data, understand the logic of statistical inference, visualize data and findings via histograms, boxplots, scatterplots, and diagnostic plots, and analyze data using one-sample t-test, difference-of-means test, covariance, correlation, ordinary least squares (OLS) regression, and model assumption diagnostics. It also demonstrates how to replicate the findings in published journal articles and diagnose model assumption violations. Because the book integrates R programming, the logic and steps of statistical inference, and the process of empirical social scientific research in a highly accessible and structured fashion, it is appropriate for any introductory course on R, data analysis, and empirical social-scientific research.
