This volume is a collection of articles by scholars across disciplines to create a discourse of family law independent of Religious Personal Law, whilst striving for fairness and justice to all. It demonstrates the artificiality of the public–private divide and seeks the systematic development of ideas for a fair and just family law in contemporary India. The book does not merely document the pathologies of power within the family but also makes proposals for remedying these inequities. It is not confined to considering what changes need to be inducted into existing family law to make it more just, but also strategises on the means and methods of effecting the change. It lifts the familial veil and scrutinises the status, rights and disabilities of some of the subordinated members of the family. The volume is an invitation to redefine family law with the twin tools of reflection and responsibility. It will interest those in law judges, legislators, law reformers as well as those in women and family studies, policy makers and policy analysts, apart from the general reader.

'Family Law' refers to the set of legal rules which are in practice in India with regards to 'family' issues - marriage, divorce, inheritance, etc. This volume is a collection of articles by different scholars across disciplines to generate a discourse on just Family Law. Main features: it is an inter-disciplinary collection of articles on family law - not just by lawyers or legal specialists but includes political scientists, sociologists, economists, anthropologists, religion specialists, etc. it is concerned with a just family law that moves beyond a uniform civil code. Has a strong but not exclusive focus on women and women's issues. The authors demonstrate that substantive rules such as a just family law, in addition to being inclusive, would make connections between the structure of the family and in the wider economic, political and social institutions. Secondly, they challenge the myths about the private sphere as the sphere of non-regulation by law in order to demonstrate that just a family law can be compatible with freedom of conscience. The authors here are seeking to create a discourse on family law that accommodates diversity and is context-sensitive. However, most of the contemporary legal theory questions the role of law in achieving justice, and there is a pervasive view that cultural diversity is more valuable than a state-imposed family law. This argument is addressed from various standpoints to show that cultural plurality can be pursued in many other ways and a just family law is the minimum condition for a fair resolution of disputes, if and when they do rise. This book does not just document the pathologies of power within the family but also makes proposals for remedying these inequities. Integrated livestock-fish production system can be recommended for small scale owner-operator farm. High feed costs of the livestock system will be offset by low cost and high return fish system. Attention has to be given on extension since farm yields are sensitive to physical factors, farm size, farm type, and stocking rate. More information is needed on the interaction between the systems in order to determine the optimum size. The selection of waste heat rejection systems for steam-electric power plants involves a trade-off among environmental, energy and water conservation, and economic factors. This study compares four general types of cooling systems on the basis of these factors. The cooling systems chosen for study are: once-through systems including surface canals and submerged multiport diffusers; shallow closed cycle cooling ponds; mechanical and natural draft evaporative cooling towers; and mechanical draft dry towers. The cooling system comparison involves, first, an optimization of each cooling system and then a comparison among optimal systems. Comparison is made for an 800 MWe fossil unit and a 1200 MWe nuclear unit located at a hypothetical midwestern river site. A set of models has been developed to optimize the components of each cooling system based on the local meteorological and hydrological conditions at the site in accordance with a fixed demand, scalable plant concept. This concept allows one to compare the costs of producing the same net power from each plant/cooling system. Base case economic parameters were used to evaluate the optimum system for each of the four general cooling systems followed by a sensitivity study for each parameter. Comparison of energy and water consumption follows from the results of the performance model, while comparison of environmental impacts is mostly qualitative. Some quantitative modelling was performed for the environmental effects of thermal discharges from once-through systems, fogging from wet cooling towers and water consumption from the ponds, wet towers and once-through. The results of the optimization models of each of the systems are compared on the basis of: performance - discrete distributions of environmental conditions and transient simulation; economics - using base case scenarios and sensitivity values to arrive at costs expressed in terms of production costs, annualized costs and present value costs; energy and water consumption; and environmental effects. The once-through systems were found to be the least expensive of the four systems, the most energy efficient, but potentially the most environmentally damaging. On the other extreme, dry cooling towers are the most environmentally sound while being the most expensive and least energy efficient. Finally, the results of the economic optimization are compared with results from previous comparative studies.
