Kepekaan Nombor, Numerasi dan Kemahiran Berfikir Aras Tinggi (KBAT) dalam Pendidikan Matematik Sekolah Rendah (Penerbit USM)

Keupayaan berfikir merupakan satu daripada matlamat pendidikan di Malaysia dan juga kemahiran yang diperlukan untuk pembelajaran pada abad ke-21. Penulisan ini memfokuskan kemahiran berfikir dalam pembelajaran matematik melalui kefahaman konsep nombor dan dibincangkan dalam rangka kepekaan nombor, numerasi dan kemahiran berfikir aras tinggi (KBAT). Seterusnya, KBAT dalam matematik dilihat sebagai asas kepada kefahaman matematik lebih tinggi dan juga pengantar kejayaan bidang lain. Pengalaman murid semasa mempelajari matematik pada tahap awal ini adalah penting dalam membentuk kepercayaan dan nilai mereka terhadap matematik. Kepekaan nombor, numerasi dan KBAT dibincangkan daripada perspektif dua elemen utama dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran, iaitu murid dan guru. Pertama, perspektif kognitif murid melibatkan perwakilan dalaman dan luaran serta strategi penyelesaian masalah matematik. Kedua, proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran guru sangat berkait rapat dengan pembentukan kepekaan nombor, numerasi dan KBAT murid. Proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran akan dibincangkan daripada perspektif kepercayaan dan pengetahuan guru berkaitan pengajaran dan pembelajaran yang membentuk KBAT. Pertama, daripada aspek kognitif, kefahaman konsep nombor dilihat sebagai cara maklumat diwakili dan distrukturkan dengan merujuk kepada kebolehan seseorang menghubungkan idea, fakta atau prosedur. Sesuatu idea matematik boleh diwakili suatu bentuk perwakilan atau pelbagai perwakilan. Kefahaman terbentuk apabila perwakilan idea, fakta atau prosedur matematik menjadi sebahagian daripada jaringan perwakilan. Kajian menunjukkan bahawa walaupun murid mempunyai strategi menyelesaikan masalah yang dikemukakan, kepekaan nombor mereka membantu membentuk strategi bermakna. Sehubungan itu, maklumat tentang cara murid menyelesaikan masalah yang diberikan adalah lebih penting daripada sama ada mereka dapat memberikan penyelesaian yang betul atau sebaliknya. Kedua, daripada aspek pengajaran dan pembelajaran guru, dua perkara utama yang akan dibincangkan ialah kepercayaan guru tentang matematik dan kriteria pengajaran guru serta amalan pengajaran yang menyokong dan membangunkan KBAT berdasarkan penyelidikan yang telah dijalankan. Kepercayaan guru dikaji mengikut kerangka matematik sebagai disiplin formal dan informal. Kerangka yang sama digunakan untuk mengkaji kepercayaan guru terhadap pengajaran matematik. Kesimpulan mencadangkan bahawa sebahagian besar guru matematik sekolah rendah mempunyai campuran kedua-dua kepercayaan yang formal dan tidak formal. Penulisan ini juga membincangkan penyelidikan, kriteria pengajaran guru dan amalan pengajaran yang menyokong dan membangunkan KBAT. Kajian pengajaran matematik guru menunjukkan kemunculan aspek-aspek tertentu pengajaran seperti ciri-ciri guru yang baik dan penglibatan pelajar yang berkesan. Walau bagaimanapun, aspek-aspek lain pengajaran seperti pengetahuan kandungan pedagogi guru dan perkaitan matematik kepada kandungan dilihat sebagai sangat mencabar kepada guru. Justeru, untuk melaksanakan KBAT dengan berkesan, aspek murid yang merujuk kepada perkembangan kognitif mereka, khususnya perwakilan dan strategi penyelesaian masalah harus diambil kira. Selain itu, latihan profesional guru seharusnya menangani kepercayaan asas guru terhadap matematik kerana sistem kepercayaan guru ialah pengemudi utama dalam pelaksanaan pengajaran dan pembelajaran yang berkesan.
