Strategic Management from an Islamic Perspective

Text and Cases

Fascinating insights into modern strategic management from an Islamic perspective While strategic management is a cornerstone of any MBA program, it's almost always taught from conventional theories and typically American case studies. This book takes those traditional theories and interprets them from an Islamic perspective using more international case studies. Though primarily intended as a textbook for business students, the book is also extremely useful for any Muslim business leaders who want to transform their businesses while complying with Shariah, with a particular focus on developing corporate cultures and structures in sync with Islamic values. Offers a critical review of conventional strategic management theory, suggesting more effective alternatives based on a combination of conventional and Islamic theories Includes international case studies, each with a particularly Islamic angle Written by a successful author team that has written extensively on the subject of business management from an Islamic perspective

Scaling Educational Innovations

This volume stimulates critical discussions of the different variants of implementation, translation and scaling research approaches. It presents an integrated collection of different implementation and scaling studies that analyse the different facets of co-design, learning design, curriculum development, technology development, professional development and programme implementation. It also provides critical reflections on their impact and efficacies on transforming practices, informing policy-making, and theory derivation and improvement. The chapters in this volume will provide readers a deeper understanding of scaling of educational innovations in diverse socio-cultural contexts.

Handbook of Research on Using Educational Robotics to Facilitate Student Learning

Over the last few years, increasing attention has been focused on the development of children’s acquisition of 21st-century skills and digital competences. Consequently, many education scholars have argued that teaching technology to young children is vital in keeping up with 21st-century employment patterns. Technologies, such as those that involve robotics or coding apps, come at a time when the demand for computing jobs around the globe is at an all-time high while its supply is at an all-time low. There is no doubt that coding with robotics is a wonderful tool for learners of all ages as it provides a catalyst to introduce them to computational thinking, algorithmic thinking, and project management. Additionally, recent studies argue that the use of a developmentally appropriate robotics curriculum can help to change negative stereotypes and ideas children may initially have about technology and engineering. The Handbook of Research on Using Educational Robotics to Facilitate Student Learning is an edited book that advocates for a new approach to computational thinking and computing education with the use of educational robotics and coding apps. The book argues that while learning about computing, young people should also have opportunities to create with computing, which have a direct impact on their lives and their communities. It develops two key dimensions for understanding and developing educational experiences that support students in engaging in computational action: (1) computational identity, which shows the importance of young people’s development of scientific identity for future STEM growth; and (2) digital empowerment to instill the belief that they can put their computational identity into action in authentic and meaningful ways. Covering subthemes including student competency and assessment, programming education, and teacher and mentor development, this book is ideal for teachers, instructional designers, educational technology developers, school administrators, academicians, researchers, and students.

Selection of Outputs for Distributed Parameter Systems

A method of sensor location selection is introduced for distributed parameter systems. In this method, the sensitivities of spatial outputs to model parameters are computed by a model and transformed via continuous wavelet transforms into the time-scale domain to characterize the shape attributes of output sensitivities and accentuate their di erences. Regions are then sought in the time-scale plane wherein the wavelet coe cient of an output-sensitivity surpasses all the others' as indication of the output sensitivity's uniqueness. This method yields a comprehensive account of identifiability each output provides for the model parameters as the basis of output selection. This output selection strategy is evaluated for a numerical case of pollutant dispersion by advection and discussion in a two-dimensional area.

Hey Little Flower Girl

"Hey Little Flower Girl" reminds us all that no job is too small to make a moment more beautiful. We can all learn from flower girls, making a day special in their own way while celebrating their very important job of paving the aisle for the bride's grand entrance. The role of flower girl is one young women have always considered sacred. Before women are bridesmaids standing beside lifelong friends, they are flower girls, standing in front of family, playing a part in the love story of two people. Flower girls do not second-guess their importance or contemplate whether or not they should be there, scattering petals purposefully. They just do what they are supposed to do with grace and joy. "Hey Little Flower Girl" is a gift for every young girl playing a part in a bride's special day, but it's also a gift for anyone needing encouragement in their seemingly small moments.

Introduction to Communication Disorders

A Life Span Perspective

Introduction to Communication Disorders: A Lifespan Perspective presents an informative overview of the fields of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology in an interesting and highly readable manner. This text provides a solid foundation for future study by providing many viewpoints for the introductory student, offering personal stories of people with communication disorders, and examining the field from a lifespan perspective. In addition, the best models of good practice and approaches for assessment and intervention are discussed based on the authors' own clinical experience. Each chapter describes a specific disorder and related assessment and intervention methods. Each disorder is also illustrated by the personal story of an individual with that disorder. Reader interest and thought are stimulated by thought questions placed throughout each chapter and by margin notes that highlight important information. The suggested readings and Internet locations provided at the conclusion of each chapter provide additional avenues by which students can gain further knowledge. Unlike any other text currently available, Introduction to Communication Disorders features an accompanying CD-ROM a learning device and study tool which presents many of the disorders students read about in sound and video format. In addition, self-study questions follow the outline of each chapter and highlight important information.
