Child Emotional Security and Interparental Conflict

Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development

Child Emotional Security and Interparental Conflict tests a theory proposing that high levels of conflict between parents leads to an increased child risk for mental health difficulties by shaking the child's sense of security in the family. This insecurity was associated with greater mental health difficulties, even when considering the role of prior mental health, child perceptions of parental conflict, and parent-child relations.

The EC Programme "Comparability of Vocational Training Qualifications"

Aims, Working Methods, Evaluation

The Council of the European Communities (EC) has passed a number of decisions related to the creation of a labor market for skilled workers and to the facilitation of their free movement in a merging Europe. The establishment of comparability of vocational training qualifications is seen as a first step toward achieving the mutual recognition of diplomas, certificates, and other formal qualifications and as a prerequisite for enabling workers to make better use of their qualifications to obtain suitable employment in another Member State. The procedure involves several steps: EC selection of relevant occupations or groups of occupations; establishment of expert groups; preparatory studies and development of preliminary lists of possible occupations; development and discussion of draft occupational descriptions; and development of comparative tables. Member States are responsible for dissemination of all information developed. All EC Member States should establish by mutual agreement each occupational description with the title, duties, and tasks. A general assessment indicates that the process has proved its worth because a detailed source of information pertaining to occupations and sectors has been compiled that clarifies differences in training systems in the various sectors and the 12 Member States. Member States should compile the data necessary for every occupation at the EC level. (Appendixes include a chart showing stage of work on comparability by sector and sample occupational description.) (YLB)

A Statement Regarding Fiqh of Du'aa

Indeed the topic of the Fiqh of Du'aa is a topic which is vast and of the utmost importance; because it is from having comprehension of the religion. It is affirmed within the authentic Hadeeth from the Prophet (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) that he said: "He for whom Allaah wants good, He gives him Fiqh (understanding/comprehension) in the religion." Therefore, Fiqh of Du'aa is Fiqh in the religion. Rather, it is Fiqh of a great aspect and the utmost importance in the religion of Allaah, the Majestic and High. What indicates this is the statement of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic: So, call you (O Muhammad (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and the believers) upon (or invoke) Allaah making (your) religion pure for Him. [Soorah Ghafir 40:14]Here, He referred to Du'aa as being Deen (i.e. Religion). Likewise, he, the Blessed and High referred to Du'aa as being worship in several verses within the Qur'aan. Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, has stated: And your Lord said: "Invoke Me, I will respond to your (invocation). Verily! Those who scorn My worship they will surely enter Hell in humiliation! [Soorah Ghafir 40:60]Here, He referred to Du'aa as worship. This meaning is affirmed within the Sunnah; within the Hadeeth of An-Nu'maan ibn Basheer from the Prophet (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) that he said: "Ad-Du'aa is worship." Rather, It is affirmed within Al-Mustadrak by Al-Haakim and others, from the Hadeeth of Ibn 'Abbaas, may Allaah be pleased with him, in a Marfoo' form (that he said): "The best act of worship is Ad-Du'aa." Therefore, Fiqh in Du'aa is Fiqh in religion and Fiqh in the worship of Allaah the Majestic and High. So it is a beautiful act of worship and a great act of obedience; it is a magnificent means of nearness which Allaah loves from His slaves. The research in this subject is very broad, and its aspects are great and extensive. However, I ask Allaah, the Majestic and High, to facilitate for me to bring the pivotal points of this topic and review of some of its significant aspects

Mapping Media Responsibility. Contemporary Aspects of Morals, Ethics and Social Discourse

The purpose of this volume is to broadly discuss the media's responsibility to provide discursive contributions to the ethical and moral challenges of our times. At the crossroads of intellectual progress and profit-orientation, concentration tendencies in the academic publishing industry pose a threat to the reputation and integrity of higher education. The actions of whistleblowers like Edward Snowden have radically changed our perception of privacy, stirring debates about the ethical and moral dilemma attached to the disclosures. Islam and religion continue to rank as urgent topics in the news – with the most influential contributions to the public discourse often belonging to ideologically influenced Western voices. One century after the Bolshevik revolution in 1917, Russia is still negotiating how to categorize these events – which have recently been pointed out in a controversial TV show. The example of Nigeria makes clear that insecurity and national development go hand in hand with responsible press coverage, while the low self-perception of the Belarusian film industry is due partly to its depiction in the country’s only cinematographic publication.

Further field research aiming at extemporaneous communication techniques and its use in traditional knowledge- and recognitionsystems has been done in Fez/Morocco and the convent of the Naqshbandi Sufi order in Lefke/Cyprus where he is ...
