Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Foreign Language Education

Global Issues, Models, and Best Practices from the Middle East and Turkey

Greater student mobility, increasing demand for access to tertiary education, as well as policy changes have spurred rapid expansion of the global higher education sector. However, with increased demand comes considerable variation in the quality of the supply. As higher education is an expensive endeavor for all stakeholders – governments, funders, employers, and families – there are also increasing expectations for accountability and demonstrations of quality. English as a foreign language (EFL) programs, in particular, are under considerable pressure to substantiate their value, resulting in a significant rise in interest around their quality. This volume is the outcome of a May 2018 international conference on quality and specialized accreditation, held in Turkey. The book’s three sections take the reader from the global to the program level, examining trends and best practices in quality assurance and accreditation in EFL programs. The book’s geographic focus is primarily the Middle East and Turkey, yet the issues discussed herein a quite global in nature. This volume will be of interest to educational administrators at the institutional or program level, educational leadership programs focusing on higher education, language teacher preparation programs, and administrators in centralized education systems or accrediting organizations.

Substantive and Procedural Aspects of International Criminal Law : The Experience of International and National Courts: Materials

The second volume of this unique two-volume work seeks for the first time to address in a comprehensive fashion both substantive and procedural aspects of international criminal law as applied by international and national courts. Substantive topics include individual criminal responsibility, genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, crimes against UN and associated personnel, core crimes and defenses, while procedural aspects include the right of suspects and accused, the protection of victims and witnesses, and pre-trial, trial and appeal procedures and practices. In addressing these subjects the work focuses on the practical application of the relevant norms and provides both detailed commentaries by experts in the field (Commentary volume), as well as the underlying documentation for each of the topics addressed (Documents and Cases volume). With the establishment of the International Criminal Court, the experiences of other international courts, notably the ad hoc tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda as well as their predecessors, in addressing these issues are of great value and this work is intended to assist practitioners and scholars alike. Additionally, because national courts still have a vital role to play in the application of these norms, attention is given to prosecutions in national jurisdictions. With this work the editors seek both to assist the reader in understanding these important concepts as well as to provide the background documentation such that the reader can conduct his or her own research and come to his or her own conclusions. The print edition is available as a set of two volumes (9789041111357).

Educational Psychology

Windows on Classrooms

Educational Psychology: Windows on Classrooms, Ninth Edition, will help you increase student learning and development. It is the most applied book in the field. If you're looking for a book that gives you a sound theoretical and research-based foundation and then provides specific and concrete illustrations and guidelines for applying this theory and research with your students, this is the book for you. The book uses an integrated-case approach. Each chapter begins with a case study taken from actual classroom practice. But, instead of stopping there, Eggen and Kauchak then weave the case throughout each chapter--extracting specific illustrations from it, and in some instances even taking dialogue from the lesson--to illustrate classroom applications of sometimes abstract and hard to understand theory and research.
