Orang bilang, jika kita menulis, kita bisa menjadi tuan bagi diri kita sendiri. Termasuk menjadi Tuan untuk memecahkan dilematis teori dan praktik. Fenomena tentang manajemen pemerintah daerah yang dikendalikan, diatur, dan diarahkan dari pusat (top-down development), menimbulkan kecenderungan pemerintah daerah kurang motivasi, kurang kreatif, bahkan akan menimbulkan sikap apatis masyarakat. Dilematis, karena sebagai negara penganut sistem demokrasi, idealnya peran masyarakat begitu sentral dalam berbagai lini kehidupan, tetapi bukan tidak mungkin masyarakat masih krisis kepercayaan. Hal inilah yang berusaha dipecahkan dalam buku ini melalui sajian teori dan riset. Mengulas tentang komitmen, partisipasi, dan kolaborasi masyarakat dalam program pembangunan lingkungan hidup (ecological citizenship). Krisis kepercayaan diri untuk berpartisipasi harus diakhiri, setiap masyarakat harus dimotivasi dan apapun yang dilakukan perlu diapresisi. Partisipasi masyarakat dalam menanggulangi permasalahan lingkungan, melalui program pembangunan, perlu dibiasakan untuk kemudian mengakar kuat menjadi kebudayaan. Ecological citizenship (kewarganegaraan ekologis) memberikan konsep yang relevan tentang pentingnya partisipasi dan kolaborasi dalam menanggulangi permasalahan lingkungan hidup. Memiliki relevansi terhadap pengembangan konsep otonomi dan sistem demokrasi. Ecological citizenship bukan sekedar menuntut keterlibatan diri, tetapi lebih dari itu, mewujudkan jiwa yang meresapi kebutuhan bersama antara alam dengan manusia, dan menjamin keberlangsungan hidup generasi selanjutnya.

Education for Sustainable Development in Teacher Education and Professional Development (TEPD) Programmes in Kenya: A Missing Component

Research paper from the year 2013 in the subject Pedagogy - Miscellaneous Topics, , language: English, abstract: This article discusses the role of the teacher educators in reorienting teacher education to address sustainability. The article analyzes the implementation of aims and tasks of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD) (2005-2014) among Teacher trainers/educators in Kenya. The three recent teacher education and professional development (TEPD) programmes conducted in public Teacher Training Colleges (T.T.Cs) in Kenya were scrutinized with a view of establishing the extend to which Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) has been incorporated in teacher education programmes. Both the analysis and the literature review provide no evidence that ESD has become an integral part of most teacher education programmes, and that there is no teacher education initiative that has strategically set out to mainstream sustainability into the core of teacher education programmes particularly in light of current and developing trends in education in Kenya. There is therefore, almost a blank spot in both the body of knowledge on teacher education and the actual practices of many teacher educators with regard to ESD. The article concludes with a discussion of ways to remedy the situation.

(Pengembangan Supervisi Manajerial Pengawas Sekolah Untuk Meningkatkan Mutu Pendidikan)

Dalam rangka membantu tenaga pendidik dan kependidikan untuk meningkatkan mutu pendidikan sekolah dasar, diperlukan kegiatan pengawasan pendidikan yang disebut dengan supervisi pendidikan. Maka keberadaan literatur yang mengkaji hal tersebut, sangat penting untuk terus dikembangkan. Hasil riset yang disajikan dalam buku ini, memaparkan pembahasan secara komprehensif dan aktual tentang bagaimana pelaksanaan pengawas sekolah dalam melaksanakan supervisi manajerial demi meningkatkan mutu pendidikan.

Core Banking Software (CBS) Implementation Challenges of E-Banking

An Exploratory Study on Bangladeshi Banks

Banking and financial sectors all around the world have embraced ICT to facilitate their customers with efficient services and innovative products through multi-channel. The central engine that runs the core operations of the banking and financial institution is the Core Banking Software (CBS). The operational efficiency of a bank largely depends on the CBS. Moreover, it determines what a bank can offer in the future. In Bangladesh, ICT embracement has got momentum in the last decade. Some first mover banks in Bangladesh are in the process of CBS upgradation, and some other banks are trying to implement CBS to improve competitiveness, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance. However, CBS implementation has challenges; improper attention to these challenges may result in poor CBS performance. This exploratory study tried to identify the challenges that commercial banks in Bangladesh encounter in the process of core banking system implementation or upgradation. Factor analysis has been used to analyze data from 153 respondents from seven commercial banks. This study found three primary sources (factors) of CBS implementation challenges: management, technology and vendor. These factors include: consensus on requirements, the role of employees, vendor capabilities and credentials, the software flexibility, user friendliness, capability to meet requirements, employee skill set required and data migration. The findings may help the academicians to explore the factors in other cultures, countries and cross-industry. It will also help the banking practitioners to concentrate on this challenging area to better implement and upgrade the core banking software in future.
