Anti-Money Laundering, Counter Financing Terrorism and Cybersecurity in the Banking Industry

A Comparative Study within the G-20

Despite massive investments in mitigation capabilities, financial crime remains a trillion-dollar global issue with impacts that extend well beyond the financial services industry. Worldwide, there are between $800 billion and $2 trillion laundered annually with the United States making up at least $300 billion of that figure. Although it is not possible to measure money laundering in the same way as legitimate economic activity, the scale of the problem is considered enormous. The cybersecurity landscape is always shifting, with threats becoming more sophisticated all the time. Managing risks in the banking and financial sectors requires a thorough understanding of the evolving risks as well as the tools and practical techniques available to address them. Cybercrime is a global problem, which requires a coordinated international response. This book outlines the regulatory requirements that come out of cyber laws and showcases the comparison in dealing with AML/CFT and cybersecurity among the G-20, which will be of interest to scholars, students and policymakers within these fields.

Banking. Industry. Banks are among the largest institutions in the field of finance. Since banks worldwide mediate millions of transactions throughout the day, these institutions are at a higher risk of financial crimes.

Teacher Development in India

Building on Grassroots Innovations and Technology

This volume shows how grassroots educational innovations and technology can be brought together in a fresh approach to human resource development in public social services. Based on a three-decade-long engagement with innovation in public education, this book provides an illustration of how teacher-driven innovations can be transformed into learning objects for technology-based professional development. It describes how innovations can be identified, screened and validated, and disseminated through two mechanisms—a clearinghouse-based approach and grassroots innovation “fairs.” It then demonstrates how these innovations can form the backbone of a “third space,” problem-based-learning curriculum, which can be delivered through a technology platform for large-scale professional development. The book offers guidance on practical ways of doing this, and on evaluating the curriculum’s impact, with case studies of programmes that covered thousands of teachers. This book will be of interest to teachers, students and professionals in education, teacher education, digital education, information technology, communication and media studies. It will also be useful to educationists, policymakers, teacher educators, educational institutions, online education centres, and practitioners involved in professional development, education and training in developing countries.

How to Train Language Teacher Trainers

In recent decades, considerable European investment has been devoted to the training of language assistants, full-time teaching staff and mentors, while the new figure of the professional "language teacher trainer" (LTT) has emerged. It is becoming increasingly important that future LTTs are not simply more expert teachers, or scholars competent in the various relevant disciplines, but professionals who are aware of their role, who know the development of teacher training in Europe and beyond, and who are able to compare various experiences in different training contexts. This volume is aimed at LTTs who wish to become aware of the main issues, tools and research now available for their daily practice and professional role, and for lecturers who teach prospective language teachers. Language teachers with long experience might also find useful information on how they can develop into LTTs. The book also offers an overview of recent European projects that could be relevant to principals of language departments who are involved in the assessment and performance management of their staff. Finally, the volume contains research suggestions for academic and PhD students who are investigating current issues in language teaching methodology, teacher training, lifelong learning and professional development. Contributors include: Mercé Bernaus, Nick Charge, Jim Cummins, Pierangela Diadori, Michael Kelly, Hanna Komorowska, Laura Muresan, Joe Navarro, Brian North, Mario Pace, Fiorella Perotto and Richard Rossner.
