Tulisan-tulisan Denny J.A, terutama di bagian pertama dan keempat buku ini merupakan sumbangan dan respons atas gairah politik pada periode akhir kekuasaan Soeharto itu. Melalui aneka peristiwa dan isu politik, baik yang terjadi di Tanah Air maupun di negeri lain, penulis mencoba menawarkan sejumlah proposal visi ke arah perubahan dan inovasi politik. Banyak pemikiran, ide, dan usulan yang dikandung dalam tulisan-tulisan ini kemudian, di era reformasi, menjadi bagian dari praktek politik.
