Bidang resolusi konflik telah berkembang pesat. Akibatnya, kami memutuskan untuk memperbarui dan merevisi edisi pertama buku ini. Hampir semua bab dalam edisi pertama telah diperbarui; dalam beberapa bab, revisinya meluas dan bab-bab lain hanya perubahan kecil yang tampaknya diperlukan. Juga, kami telah menambahkan beberapa bab baru untuk menggenapi topik-topik yang belum tercakup atau memerlukan cakupan lebih banyak dari yang mereka terima dalam edisi pertama.

Filsafat Ilmu (philosophy of science) di luar negeri telah mencapai taraf perkembangan yang sangat luas dan sungguh mendalam. Tampaknya di Indonesia, bidang pengetahuan ini juga mulai mendapat perhatian agak besar. Berbagai perguruan tinggi kini memberikan mata kuliah filsafat ilmu, termasuk perguruan tinggi agama Islam Pentingnya memasukkan mata kuliah filsafat ilmu kedalam kurikulum Pendidikan Tinggi Agama Islam tersebut, mengingat mata kuliah filsafat ilmu adalah sangat relevan dalam pengembangan ilmu-ilmu keagamaan (ulumuddin) dan studi keislaman (Islamic studies). Penelitian singkat ini, telah menguraikan bagaimana “Relasi Dan Relevansi Filsafat Ilmu Dalam Pengembangan Ilmu-Ilmu Keagamaan (Ulumuddin) Dan Studi Keislaman (Islamic Studies) Di Perguruan Tinggi Agama Islam Menuju Terciptanya Para Sarjana Muslim Yang Berilmu Amaliyah Dan Beramal Ilmiayah”. Topik tersebut perlu dibahas, mengingat IAIN sebagai salah satu Perguruan Tinggi Agama Islam, diharapkan bisa menjadi pusat pengembangan keilmuan agama Islam (ulumuddin) dan studi keislaman (Islamic studies), secara sehat dan dinamis. Di samping itu, IAIN sebagai pusat keilmuan dan penelitian Islam, seyogyanya jurusan-jurusan di IAIN yang berkenaan dengan disiplin-disiplin keagamaan selain lebih menekuni bidang-bidang “Islamic studies”, hendaknya juga memberikan kesempatan bagi penguasaan prinsipprinsip dari kerangka teori ilmu-ilmu umum. Maka langkah awal untuk lebih menfungsikan diri sebagai pusat penelitian dan pengembangan pembaharuan pemikiran Islam di IAIN adalah ia harus memiliki struktur fundamental yangmendasari, melatarbelakangi dan mendorong kegiatan-kegiatan praksis keilmuan. Borneo Studies in History, Society and Culture

This edited book is the first major review of what has been achieved in Borneo Studies to date. Chapters in this book situate research on Borneo within the general disciplinary fields of the social sciences, with the weight of attention devoted to anthropological research and related fields such as development studies, gender studies, environmental studies, social policy studies and cultural studies. Some of the chapters in this book are extended versions of presentations at the Borneo Research Council’s international conference hosted by Universiti Brunei Darussalam in June 2012 and a Borneo Studies workshop organised in Brunei in 2012. The volume examines some of the major debates and controversies in Borneo Studies, including those which have served to connect post-war research on Borneo to wider scholarship. How particular has Southeast Asia’s experience of educational development been, and has this led to an identifiably distinct Southeast Asian approach to the provision of education? Inquiry into these questions has significant consequences for our understanding of the current state of education in Southeast Asia and the challenges it has inherited. This book contributes to a better understanding of the experience of educational development in Southeast Asia by presenting a collection of micro-historical studies on the subject of education, policy and practice in the region from the emergence of modern education to the end of the twentieth century. The chapters fathom the extent to which contest over educational content in schools has occurred and establish the socio-cultural, political and economic bases upon which these contestations have taken place and the ways in which those forces have played out in the classrooms. In doing so, the book conveys a sense of the extent to which modern forms of education have been both facilitated and shaped by the region’s specific configurations; its unique demographic, religious, social, environmental, economic and political context.
