Crime and Coercion

An Integrated Theory of Chronic Criminality

In a major new theory of criminal behavior, Mark Colvin argues that chronic criminals emerge from a developmental process characterized by recurring, erratic episodes of coercion. Colvin s differential coercion theory, which integrates several existing criminological perspectives, lays out a compelling argument that coercive forces create social and psychological dynamics that lead to chronic criminal behavior. While Colvin s presentation focuses primarily on chronic street criminals, the theory is also applied to exploratory offenders and white-collar criminals. In addition, Colvin presents a critique of current crime control measures, which rely heavily on coercion, and offers in their place a comprehensive crime reduction program based on consistent, non-coercive practices.

Is Abortion Logical?

Believe it or not, logic plays a major part

Arguments in favor of abortion are humorously exposed as illogical, by way of compelling (but rather unusual) examples, logical reasoning and historical/legal research. Justifications for abortion which are shot down in this volume are: the 'right' of privacy; the assertion that 'it's my body and I can do what I want with it;' in vitro fertilization; social problems allegedly linked to fertility; the fallacy that unsafe abortions will occur if abortion is not legalized; and more.

Studies in Islamic Social Sciences

This book is a project toward the continuing theme of the Islamic worldview of economy-society-institution interactions in national and international forums, wherein individual and group preferences are created and sustained by the regeneration of knowledge into higher levels of realising truth. Truth and the medium of knowledge for realising higher levels of truth, are argued to be the only most immutable character of all systems.

Ekonomi Pembangunan Islam

Child Emotional Security and Interparental Conflict

Monographs of the Society for Research in Child Development

Child Emotional Security and Interparental Conflict tests a theory proposing that high levels of conflict between parents leads to an increased child risk for mental health difficulties by shaking the child's sense of security in the family. This insecurity was associated with greater mental health difficulties, even when considering the role of prior mental health, child perceptions of parental conflict, and parent-child relations.
