Menyingkap Argumen Epistemologis Abdul Karim Soroush

Buku ini berhasil menguraikan gagasan Abdul Karim Soroush yang tidak hanya baru dari segi isi, tetapi juga dari segi argumentasinya. Soroush menggunakan epistemologi penyusutan dan pengembangan dalam memahami agama, dan teori ini membedakan agama dengan pengetahuan keagamaan. Hampir semua pemikir berpendapat bahwa agama adalah wahyu Ilahi yang diturunkan kepada nabi-Nya melalui perantaraan malaikat. Pendapat ini mengandaikan nabi berada dalam posisi pasif. Berbeda dengan mereka, Soroush memahami agama sebagai hasil pengalaman seorang nabi bertemu dengan Yang Sakral. Pengertian ini melahirkan kesan bahwa nabi bersikap aktif dan agama tidak semata-mata setiap sesuatu yang datang dari Tuhan, melainkan harus dialami oleh seorang nabi. Jika selama ini para pemikir selalu merujuk pada al-Qur’an dalam memahami agama, Soroush justru mensyaratkan juga untuk memahami atau menafsirkan pengalaman keagamaan Nabi Muhammad Saw. karena al-Qur’an merupakan konkretisasi pengalaman keagamaan nabi. Pengalaman keagamaan nabi plural, begitu juga pesan yang terkandung dalam al-Qur’an. Dengan prinsip ini, Soroush berpendapat bahwa tidak boleh ada tafsir tunggal dan statis terhadap agama (al-Qur’an). Tafsir terhadap agama harus plural dan dinamis. Menariknya, jika biasanya para peneliti pemikiran seorang tokoh menggunakan kerangka teori dari tokoh lain, maka penulis buku ini menyingkap pemikiran Soroush menggunakan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Soroush sendiri. Sangat terasa buku ini dikerjakan di atas basis teori penulisan yang teoretis, bukan sekadar kompilatif sebagaimana banyak dilakukan orang.
