Buku Tafsir Ayat-ayat Riba merupakan buah pikir Sayyid Quthb (1906―1966) yang secara spesifik membahas riba dari beragam perspektif. Pengetahuan Sayyid yang luas mengenai sistem ekonomi, politik, dan budaya membuat buku ini tak sekadar kajian agama. Pengkajiannya luas, mendalam, dan langsung pada pokok permasalahan. Penulis buku ini merupakan seorang yang sangat aktif dalam pergerakan kemerdekaan di Mesir Kala itu. Dirinya terlibat secara langsung dalam revolusi Mesir tahun 1952. Keterlibatannya itu justru memperdalam pemikirannya mengenai sistem perpolitikan baik nasional maupun global. Pemikiran tersebut kemudian ia tuangkan dalam beragam buku, termasuk ke dalam buku ini. Sumbangan dari Ideologi Qutbisme untuk perkembangan pemikiran Islam sangat besar, maka penting bagi yang terlibat secara langsung dalam pergerakan atau perpolitikan untuk mengkajinya. Utamanya agar mendapat gambaran jelas mengenai akar gerakan radikalisme global. Quthb memang sangat kritis terhadap ketidakadilan, baik dari dalam maupun luas Islam.
