Socio-Cultural Perspectives on Science Education

An International Dialogue

Global science education is a reality at the end of the 20th century - albeit an uneven reality - because of tremendous technological and economic pressures. Unfortunately, this reality is rarely examined in the light of what interests the everyday lives of ordinary people rather than the lives of political and economic elites. The purpose of this book is to offer insightful and thought-provoking commentary on both realities. The tacit question throughout the book is `Whose interests are being served by current science education practices and policies?' The various chapters offer critical analysis from the perspectives of culture, economics, epistemology, equity, gender, language, and religion in an effort to promote a reflective science education that takes place within, rather than taking over, the important cultural lives of people. The target audience for the book includes graduate students in education, science education and education policy professors, policy and government officials involved with education.

Model Pendidikan Tasawuf Pada Tariqah Shadhiliyah

Masyarakat modern merasa kehilangan pegangan hidup setelah mereka terlelap dalam kehidupan materialismenya, kemudian mengalami kebingungan. Mereka menjadi bingung dan skeptis dengan materialisme. Karenanya mereka berpikir tentang sesuatu yang lebih dari sekedar benda-benda di sekeliling mereka, bahwasanya ada hal-hal yang transenden di balik kehidupan manusia. Oleh karena itu sebagian manusia kembali kepada nilai-nilai keagamaan, sebab salah satu fungsi agama adalah memberikan makna bagi kehidupan. Dalam agama Islam terdapat ajaran yang dikenal dengan istilah tasawuf. Sesuai dengan pandangan tasawuf dalam tariqah Shadhiliyah ini, antara lain: Tidak menganjurkan murid-muridnya untuk meninggalkan profesi dunia dan tidak melarang mereka untuk menjadi orang kaya secara materi, asalkan hatinya tidak bergantung pada harta yang dimilikinya, memperhatikan pelaksanaan syariat Islam, zuhud dengan mengosongkan hati dari selain Allah. Selain itu, mereka harus berupaya mencapai “langit” (mengenal Dzat Allah) dan beraktifitas dalam realita di “bumi” ini. Beraktifitas sosial untuk kemaslahatan umat adalah bagian integral dari hasil kontemplasi. Karena jiwa manusia membutuhkan Tasawuf, maka perlu ditransformasikan kepada generasi penerus melalui pendidikan Tasawuf. Semoga buku ini menjadi ilmu yang bermanfaat. [ ]
