Perkeretaapian Indonesia memiliki sejarah perjalanan panjang yang tidak hanya memberikan kemanfaatan bagi masyarakat tetapi juga meninggalkan banyak warisan dengan nilai kesejarahan tinggi. Namun sayangnya, belum semua tinggalan- tinggalan perkeretaapian yang bernilai sejarah tinggi dapat diselamatkan dan dilestarikan. Banyak aset-aset bersejarah perkeretaapian yang kondisinya memprihatinkan dan bahkan tak lagi berbekas terutama yang berada pada jalur kereta api (KA) yang sudah tidak lagi beroperasi. Kecintaan dan kepedulian pada warisan bersejarah perkeretaapian Indonesia mendorong Kereta Anak Bangsa untuk menelusuri dan mendokumentasikan tinggalan-tinggalan bersejarah perkeretaapian Indonesia terutama yang berada di jalur-jalur KA nonaktif. Jalur KA nonaktif meninggalkan warisan kesejarahan yang amat berharga bagi bangsa ini berupa tinggalan-tinggalan aset bersejarah perkeretaapian yang dapat dimanfaatkan agar memiliki nilai edukasi dan ekonomi. Buku “Jalur Kereta Opium Jakarta - Riwayat Dan Tinggalan Jalur Kereta Api Cikini – Salemba – Pabrik Opium” ini mengisahkan riwayat, profil, dan tinggalan bersejarah yang ada di jalur KA nonaktif di kawasan padat pemukiman penduduk di wilayah pusat kota Jakarta yaitu di ruas Stasiun KA Cikini menuju ke bekas Stasiun Salemba hingga ke area bekas pabrik opium di masa silam yang kini menjadi bagian dari Gedung Fakultas Ekonomi Universitas Indonesia. Hasil penelusuran dan pendokumentasian jalur KA tersebut kemudian dituangkan ke dalam buku ini dengan disertai beberapa referensi kesejarahan yang ada. Semoga kehadiran buku ringkas ini dapat memberikan manfaat dalam memperkaya khasanah pustaka sejarah perkeretaapian di Indonesia.
