Sumbangan Pemikiran Ian G. Barbour mengenai Relasi Sains dan Agama terhadap Islamisasi Sains
This type of research is qualitative research. According to Ibnu in (Ainin, 2010) that qualitative research is a study whose data is expressed in verbal form and without using statistical techniques, the relationship between science and religion is a complicated one. The two are always an interesting topic of discussion. Science in human life is always developing and changing. While religion is always considered a hereditary tradition that is maintained by certain communities. One of the figures who raised the issue of science and religion is Ian G. Barbour. Barbour tries to map the methodological, conceptual and practical aspects of the relationship between science and religion in typology. Barbour's typology consists of four levels, namely conflict, independence, dialogue, and integration. When talking about religion, Barbour's attention is almost limited to theology, and when he talks about science, his attention is mainly focused on what is conveyed by the content of the most recent theories in the natural sciences. With the integration of religion and science, which Barbour said, it became the starting point for the Islamization of science. The Islamization of Science Movement by Al-Faruqi and Syed M. Naquib al-Attas is here to save science from westernization, and to answer the concerns of Islamic scientists who are worried about the damage to monotheism and nature due to the negative impact of Western science. Both emphasize the concept of monotheism (tauhid) as the basis of science.
