Ekonomi islam merupakan sebuah sistem ekonomi yang sarat dengan moral ethic, disusun berdasarkan sumber hukum Islam, yakni Al Qur’an dan Sunnah serta sumber lainnya yang diakui dalam ajaran Islam. This book analyzes selected key issues in Islamic thought and its contemporary relevance. It is an attempt to conform to the mission of the Department of Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion of the International Islamic University Malaysia, which is committed to the "Relevantisation" of Islamic heritage, in addition to the Islamicisation of Human Knowledge. The principal objective is to enable students, staff, and people to obtain a correct and proper understanding of Islamic thought and inspire them to present an Islamic worldview by applying the method of moderation (Wasatiyyah). This study falls within 14 chapters. It deals with the concept of Rahmatan Li'l Alamin, nationalism in the discourse of Contemporary Relevance of Muslim revivalists, the feminist discourse in the Muslim world, secularism in the discourse of Maulana Abdur Rahim, Muslim response to Western criticism of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), Mawdudi's approaches to the Qur'anic exegesis, spiritual ethics and character building, new religious movements in Malaysia, which promote controversies and dissensions, the sovereignty of Allah in the Qur'an, Muhammad Iqbal's theory of Selfhood, the influence of Imam al-Ghazzali in the Malay World, the impact of Islam on the Malay language, Mawdudi's view of education; its relationship with Islamisation of Knowledge and Meherullah's socio-religious and political thought.

Unity and Diversity in Contemporary Muslim Thought

This volume brings together ten articles on contemporary Muslim thought written by authors from Europe and the Middle East, who are specialized in the fields of Islamic theology, Islamic studies and Political Sciences. The scope of the contributions is limited by two aspects: each contribution focuses either on the thought of a contemporaneous Muslim theologian, whose creative period came after 1950 or on a Muslim stream that is relevant today. Second, the contributions also consider the interdependence between theological debates and the larger context in which they take place. The issues addressed here are diverse in nature and the approaches adopted are various, but they are united in giving testimony to the continuing existence of plurality in Muslim theology. The Religious Opposition to Sunni Revival

Nineteenth-century Istanbul was an intellectual hub of rich discussions about Islam, in which leading reformists had a significant role. Turkey today appears to be an intellectual vacuum to anyone searching for ongoing critical engagement with Islam. The main purpose of this book is to adjust this view of Turkey by showcasing the modern Turkish theologians who challenge mainstream Sunni interpretations of Islam. Labelling these theologians as 'rationalist' rather than 'reformist', the author reveals that their theology is inherently anti-establishment and thus a religiously-oriented challenge to the hegemony of the state-sanctioned Islam: for the rationalists, Turkey's problems have their origins in the Sunni interpretation of Islam. Contemporary Rationalist Islam in Turkey analyses nine prominent scholars of Islam who provide a religious opposition to the Sunni revival in Turkey: Hüseyin Atay, Yasar Nuri Öztürk, M. Hayri Kirbasoglu, Ilhami Güler, R. Ihsan Eliaçik, Ömer Özsoy, Mustafa Öztürk, Israfil Balci, and Mehmet Azimli. These scholars' writings are almost exclusively published in Turkish, so this book makes their ideas available in English for the first time. It also examines the scope, methodology and argumentation of the scholars' theology, categorizing their theological interpretations from 'historicist' to 'universalist' and from 'empiricist' to 'rationalist'. In identifying a new 'rationalist' school of Turkish theology and outlining its different manifestations, the book breaks new ground. It fills a significant gap in the literature on Islamic studies and reveals an understudied dimension of Turkey and Turkish Islam beyond the well-known ideas of the AKP and the Gulenists.

The Islamic revival in recent decades has generated a growth industry in books and periodical literature on contemporary Islam. This partially annotated bibliography lists available literature on the Islamic revival published in English between 1970 and 1988. Yvonne Yazbeck Haddad and her colleagues also provide background information and a special bibliography on women, Islamic banking, and Muslims in Europe and the United States. Three introductory chapters provide an overview of the field of Islamic revival studies from varying perspectives. The bibliography includes academic and primary sources, many of which have been annotated. Some pre-1970 entries are included since they are the only available sources on particular subjects. Many entries are classified according to geographical areas and subdivided by specific country when appropriate. For comparative studies of international scope, entries on activities in China, the Soviet Union, parts of Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa are included, as well as entries on Muslims in Europe and North America, and Islamic institutions in the West.
